Antiguo Cauce del

Río Turia

The Antiguo Cauce del Río Turia is known for being the bigger park, distincly urban, in Spain; with more than 7km long. Moreover, attached to the park, it houses the City of Arts and Sciences or the Bioparc, among others.

After the Big Flood of Valencia, in 1986 the city council proposed to divert the water from the river and to create in the riverbed a big axis for communications. After some years and thanks to the neighbourhood slogan “el riu és nostre i el volem verd” (“the river is ours and we want it green”), they managed to convert the old riverbed of the Turia River (Antiguo Cauce del Río Turia) into a place for leisure and nature.

Furthermore, thanks to this green lung, the main spots in the city are connected by foot or by bicycle. A walk along the Antiguo Cauce del Río Ruria is an activity to relax, observe, practice sport or discover all the activities that it homes.
